Hey everyone! With the recent events of being on vacation, I realized that all the excitement I wanted to share wouldn’t fit a 140 character tweet. So instead, here we are with a blog post!
HallwayRaptor and I have been on a small vacation this past weekend while attending Animaritime, an anime convention here in the maritimes of Canada. First off I just want to say how much your perspective can change when you’re taken away from your daily routines and placed in a different schedule. I’d say that so far I’ve been 30% relaxing, but 70% in thinking mode. Being exposed to different forms of stimulation from seeing other hard working artists in action in an artist alley, people performing in masquerades, like minded individuals getting together and celebrating their favorite thing, the list goes on. It’s been a real thought provoking experience.
At first I wasn’t sure what I was feeling exactly, but I can say with confidence that I’m ready to try to take things to the next level. I found myself re-evaluating my portfolio and my list of ideas. I found myself scrapping current ideas or the ones that were next in line and instead adding new and fresh ones I hadn’t felt inspired to do until just now. In a nutshell, I want to do more study pieces featuring my original characters; challenging areas I feel weak in that I want to improve on so I can make each new piece stronger than the previous. To be more specific, some of the ideas I currently have lined up are: a sitting study (my characters doing different sitting poses), a background study (featuring a scene and my characters in a coffee shop), and forshortening study (to put simply, different angles and perspectives rather than straight on).
In relation to taking it to the next level, I’ve decided that I want to also do two more things:
1) Have a table in artist alley in 2018, to help promote original content and to be able to engage with friends on a one to one basis.
2) Be able to perform a dance in cosplay in a masquerade.
While some of these goals may take a while before they’re achieved, what it means is that we have plenty of time to get prepared properly and to keep growing our presence. And you can help with this too. Everything from sharing information on social media to messaging the right people with connections. Word of mouth is a great strength, and what’s even stronger than this is our friendships we have with one another.
We have our long term goals and we have our short ones. This blog post is mostly putting emphasis on the short term goals we are aiming to achieve. But our long term ones haven’t faltered; we want to be the best people we can be every day, and to help inspire those around us to also be the best they can be, and so on. In doing so, we hope that by being ourselves and sharing our passions that our happiness can combat the negativity and toxicity. If you can change your perspective, you can change anything.
Thank you for believing in us, and thank you for believing in yourself. Look forward to seeing you all again on Monday’s broadcast.
